Milngavie Reservoir

milngavie-reservoirI campaigned hard, along with individuals and community organisations, to force Scottish Water to change its plans for a new water treatment plant, to protect the environment at the reservoir site.

It was important to prevent Scottish Water creating an eyesore in Milngavie when it built the new water treatment works. As a result of these efforts, Scottish Water had to substantially revise their original plans, reducing the size of the treatment works by a third, landscaping the site properly and working within an agreed conservation plan for the whole reservoir site.

The contrast between water treatment plants in Milngavie and Balmore show the benefits.

Balmore is an eyesore whereas in Milngavie the treatment plant is almost invisible from many standpoints. This shows what can be done by sustained community pressure.

Recently I successfully campaigned alongside members of the community to prevent Scottish Water turning the disabled car park adjacent to the straining well into an unrestricted car park, something that would have created traffic hazards and adversely affected the peaceful enjoyment of the reservoir by walkers.

Many thanks for your continuing support.

We are keen to see the removal of the unsightly security fences along with the establishment of a Trust.

The community is keen to work together in improving the Reservoir site and enhancing its qualities.
